The association has asked for immediate implementation of the 7th Pay Commission with arrears in cash from January 1, 2016.
After eagerly waiting for last four months for the implementation of 7the Pay Commission (7CPC), the Goa Government Employees Association (GGEA) has finally decided to escalate their battle to next level as they have called for an indefinite strike.
The GGEA has served the state government a notice of 21 days protesting against the government’s non-implementation of 7th Pay Commission recommendations for Goa’s government employees.
According to reports, GGEA president John Nazareth said that around 30,000 state government employees will go on strike after the 21-days notice period expires. The association has asked for immediate implementation of the 7th Pay Commission with arrears in cash from January 1, 2016.
The employees had also asked for parity in pay scales for all government employees in view of sudden upgradations of pay of few selected categories. The employees also demanded complete stoppage of all service extensions and re-employment of retired government employees and immediate withdrawal of all the orders of service extension that are in force.
The employees association believe that the Central Government is not serious about implementing the recommendations made by 7th Pay Commission. The employees association is seeking grant of Group C status to all Group D employees appointed after January 1, 2006, from their appointment date and also to grant in the pay scale of 5,200-20,200 plus grade pay scale of 1,800, as per the provisions made in the 6th Pay Commission report and stoppage of recoveries from Group D employees who were paid in the pay scale of 5,200-20,200 plus grade pay scale of 1,800.
The employees association has also called a rally at Azad Maidan, Panaji, and from there they will subsequently march to the secretariat if their demands are not met. According to reports, the association had announced on August 4 that the recommendations made by the 7th Pay Commission panel would be implemented soon and a notification for the same will be issued, before Ganesh Chaturthi. The employees were also promised that the revised pay scales will be paid from November with arrears from January to October which will be credited in the GPF accounts of the respective employees.
The GGEA has also written a letter to the liaison officer of the state chief minister and to the chief minister highlighting their demands.
